Conference bursaries now available.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship by The Wellcome Trust, we can now offer a limited number of travel bursaries. Read below for more information.
Reconciliation in research and its measurement starts with ensuring everyone is in the room!
We know that getting to a conference isn’t always easy especially if you’re an early career researcher, travelling from overseas, or coming from a country where research funds are tight. That’s why we’re delighted to announce that, thanks to generous sponsorship from Wellcome, we’re able to offer a small number of travel bursaries to help make STI-ENID 2025 as accessible as possible.

The 29th Annual Science and Technology Indicators (STI-ENID) Conference will take place in Bristol this September, bringing together a global community of researchers, policy makers, and practitioners working at the intersection of science, technology, and innovation studies. This year’s theme, ‘Reconciliation in research and its measurement’, invites us to reflect on how knowledge, evidence, and research cultures can help bridge divides — geographic, economic, epistemic, and social.

But big ideas need people in the room and we know that the cost of getting to that room can be a real barrier. The STI-ENID Conference runs on a tight budget, so we are especially pleased that Wellcome’s support is enabling us to do more to help those who might otherwise miss out.

These bursaries are limited in both number and size, but they are intended to support participants for whom travel funding is genuinely hard to secure. In particular, we expect to prioritise:

-
Early career researchers with limited institutional support
-
Attendees travelling from low and middle income countries
-
Anyone for whom a bursary would mean the difference between attending or not
If this sounds like you, or someone you know, please get in touch by 13th August 2025 via sti-enid2025@bristol.ac.uk. Tell us a bit about your circumstances and how a bursary would help you take part. We can’t promise to fund everyone who asks, but we’re committed to making the conference as inclusive as our budget allows.

If you’re an institution, senior researcher, or funder reading this: please help spread the word. Every extra conversation, collaboration, and connection that happens in Bristol this September is another step towards a more equitable and open research ecosystem — one that lives up to the idea of reconciliation at its heart.

And if you’re still wondering whether you should come, take this as your sign. Bristol in September is beautiful, the conversations will be lively, and your voice belongs in the room.

We look forward to welcoming you to Bristol in September.
